GMR Group was the sole owner of the Delhi Capitals till December 2018. The Delhi Capitals are now owned by GMR Group (50 percent) and JSW Group (50 percent).
Starting with the IPL 2019, the two corporations have agreed to rotate leadership of the team management every two years.
Chairman Perth Jindal (MD, JSW Group) oversaw the Delhi Capitals' management team for the previous two IPL seasons, namely 2019 and 2020. GMR Group (Kiran Kumar Grandhi) will, nonetheless, be the head management of Delhi Capitals for the next two years in the IPL.

Delhi Capitals' Brand Value: Led by Shreyas Iyer, Delhi made the play-offs for the first time in seven years in 2019, defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by two wickets in their first playoff encounter. However, they lost by six wickets in the second play-off match against Chennai Super Kings, and concluded the tournament as the second runners-up.
Delhi has emerged as the IPL's most improved franchise in the previous two years. As a result, the Delhi Capitals' brand value has increased in comparison to the past.

Parth Jindal is one of the IPL's most recent franchise owners. Jindal South West (JSW), of which he is a senior director, purchased a 50% share in the Delhi franchise in 2018, paying Rs 550 crore (about US$85 million) to hold joint ownership with the GMR Group. JSW and GMR will alternate leading the team management every two years as part of the agreement. JSW's first cycle as main management ends with the 2020 IPL. After finishing third in the 2019 IPL, Jindal tells ESPNcricinfo why he believes the Capitals can make the playoffs for the second year in a row.
Tell us about your experience in the IPL thus far.
It's been fantastic. After the 2018 season, I became chairman, and we renamed the Delhi Daredevils as the Delhi Capitals and hired Sourav Ganguly as a mentor. Ricky Ponting was retained as head coach, Mohammad Kaif was hired as an assistant coach, and Dhiraj Malhotra was appointed as the new CEO. Then we altered the colors of the squad and went into the auction with a very clear plan for what we need and don't need.
Last year was a fantastic year. It was amazing to see the Kotla filled to the rafters with Delhi supporters. When I was at the venue in Kotla in 2018, the Delhi Daredevils were playing CSK, and half of the crowd was cheering for CSK - and Dhoni, of course. When [Virat] Kohli arrived, half of the crowd, if not more, cheered for RCB.
Only in 2019, when the Capitals began to perform well and the people of Delhi began to believe that the club had genuine hope and real potential for success, did they begin to support the team. The Super Over against KKR, when [Kagiso] Rabada got Andre Russell clean bowled, middle stump cartwheeling, was the turning moment, and that's when Delhi really came alive. It was simply so refreshing to see so much blue. We began [the season] with a few blue-clad individuals. By the middle of the tournament, more people were wearing blue, and by the finish, everyone was wearing blue.
When you took over in 2018, you said that you wanted to revitalize and reinvent the franchise. How far have you progressed toward the goals you set for yourself during your first ownership cycle?
I'd want to pay a lot of appreciation to the GMR Group and Kiran [Grandhi, of GMR, co-owner], because a lot of the players they entrusted or invested big on, like Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Sandeep Lamichhane - they supported them before they were household names. They've been supporting them since 2015. And when we took over the administration of the Delhi Capitals from GMR, the nucleus of the squad was already in place. Knowing we had such incredible talent made my job a lot simpler.

As a result, we brought in players like Shikhar Dhawan and Ishant Sharma to help balance the roster and bring additional experience. Axar Patel was one of our best auction choices last year, and he also adds a lot of balance. From the standpoint of the team and the squad, we have accomplished our aim.
The greatest thing for me was when R Ashwin and Ajinkya Rahane expressed interest in joining the Delhi Capitals. They made an official request to Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals, stating unequivocally that they wanted to play for Delhi Capitals. That's a big endorsement for our company.
This year's squad is outstanding. On paper, we have a very good team. When it comes to picking the XI, Ricky is going to have to rip his hair out. All an owner and management team can do is provide the finest possible squad for the head coach to pick from. Extremely ecstatic.

Our goal is to establish ourselves as one of the top three IPL franchises, after MI and CSK, both on and off the field. Slowly aim to break into the top two, which will only be possible if we win an IPL or two. It will be difficult to unseat those two famous IPL franchises without that, but that is our goal.
You mentioned Ashwin and Rahane making a request to visit DC. How did all of this happen?
Sourav Ganguly played a key part in each of the moves. He and Ricky had a lot of chats about what sort of guys we need to further develop Delhi Capitals when the IPL was going on [last year]. Ricky was really interested in both Rahane and Ashwin after Dada introduced them to him. We all spoke about it.
We thought Rahane may play a key role for the squad because of the sluggish nature of the wicket at the Kotla and the fact that the ball spins a lot and remains low. And, of course, Ashwin's expertise and versatility will be invaluable. Both Ashwin and Rahane were interested in the concept, so Dada offered it to them. Ashwin and Rahane were the captains of Kings XI and Rajasthan Royals, respectively, but Rahane had just been sacked and Steve Smith had been restored.
Both of them [Ashwin and Rahane] believed that joining Delhi would boost our team to the point where we would have a good chance of winning the IPL.

In the Indian Super League, you own Bengaluru FC. In their seven years of existence, BFC has had a lot of success. Will JSW expect the Delhi Capitals to have a similar success percentage in the next five years?
Our expertise with Bengaluru FC has been invaluable in reshaping the Delhi franchise. Two basic features have been at the heart of our success at BFC: the first has been treating players and support personnel with the greatest professionalism.

JSW and GMR would want to follow Bengaluru FC's success and win the IPL as many times as possible, but we are well aware of the IPL's huge competitiveness and pure professionalism, and I have great regard for the way some of the IPL clubs are operated. So, although it's a huge task, we've established ourselves as candidates.
We weren't even considered competitors two years ago. Every publication and pundit now claims that the Delhi Capitals are a contender, with the majority claiming that they are a favorite to win the playoffs. That's a significant shift, and we must continue to build on it.
On the pitch, the players must do their duties. To ensure their success, we must establish the finest possible environment for them. All we can do is that. The rest is up to the players and support personnel, and as owners, we must fully back them. Every player will have a terrible streak, but it doesn't mean they should be dropped. You must support them and make them feel like they are a member of your family before they will perform.
That's the beauty of Bengaluru FC's and Mumbai Indians', CSK and KKR's, success. The way the players feel like they're a part of the Mumbai Indians, CSK, or KKR family is something we're trying to achieve with the Delhi Capitals.
